The Apokoronas area

This area is just to the east of the beautiful, historic Venetian city of Chania.

The Apakoronas area is frequently compared to glamorous St.Tropez before mass tourism. This area includes the beach villages of Almerida and Kalives, the traditional villages of Plaka, Vamos, Gavalachori, Kokkino Chorio, and country villages such as Kefalas and Litsarda.

A popular destination for holiday makers

Increasingly popular with Northern Europeans, Apokoronou has become slightly more cosmopolitan whilst firmly retaining its Cretan heritage and culture. This area has long been a popular destination for holiday makers but is far removed from brash tourism.

With only a few large hotels in the area, Apokoronou appeals particularly to those wishing to travel more independently without the 'pre-package' feel. Crete is compact enough to explore and travel around easily and yet large enough to never get bored.
