Not only because of its location Kefalas is one of the most beautiful villages of this area.

Interesting architecture with Venetian portals

High on the Cape Drapanos peninsular viewing the blue sea the wish of nostalgia and postcard idyll comes true. The village has preserved its sublime dignity of the past centuries and the cliché of the kafenion with old wooden chairs, of narrow lanes, whitewashed houses and blue sea is still reality. In the upper village interesting architecture with Venetian portals and a ruin of a customs house guarantee this idyll. The wonderful view down to the bay of Georgioupolis and to Rethymnon is just a godsend.

Rocky cove of Ombrogialos

There are some small supermarkets and good tavernas and nearby you will find the small barren and rocky cove of Ombrogialos inclusively a lovely taverna at the seashore. The water here is always crystal clear and very bright turquoise.

But take care: it is nice to swim but only when the water is calm.
